Wedding Day Makeup in the Midst of a Pandemic

Wedding Day Makeup in the Midst of a Pandemic

I love creating a wedding day makeup look with brides. I always feel honored to a part of one of the most special milestones in a woman's life. Seeing each bride’s face light up when she sees her reflection is the highlight of my day.

As a bridal makeup artist, most mornings I’ve spent with wedding parties involves a room filled with friends and family. I’m doing makeup while watching everyone enjoying mimosas and memories. Laughter fills the room and it is such a special time. 2020 weddings are shaping up to be a little different than most brides have anticipated.

With the current Pandemic, the scope of bridal beauty and the wedding
celebration has dramatically changed. Some brides have chosen to reschedule to next year. Many brides are choosing to forgo the large party and attendees to have an intimate gathering to keep their existing 2020 wedding date. A number of them are planning both. They’ll have their intimate ceremony this year and then in 2021 the large celebration they originally planned.

Currently, in NYS, the guidelines have not been released for when makeup services will be allowed to resume and what the limitations on services will be. This has left brides wondering what to do if they are having their mini wedding and still want to look special for their day.

Within the makeup artist community I am hearing a number of ideas. A makeup artist friend of mine is involved with a direct sales makeup company, so she is putting together a complete set of makeup products and brushes for her bridal clients to be able to apply their wedding day look themselves, should it be necessary.

If in-person contact is not an option, I recommend reaching out to your makeup artist to see what they can suggest. Since NYS is opening by region, it will depend on what Phase your area is currently in. Being allowed to work is not controlled by your makeup artist. Keep in mind things are very fluid, so having flexibility in your plan and a backup plan is a good idea.

An option I’m offering my bridal clients is a Pre-Wedding day video consult to see what products and tools they currently have that can be used to apply their own makeup the day of the wedding. I’ll then create a mini shopping list of items I recommend to complete their look. I will even create a face chart with product colors, their placement, and the proper brushes to use for reference.

The day of the wedding I can plan a video chat while the bride is applying her makeup which allows me to walk her through the process and calm any nerves she may have. At the bride’s request, I can arrange a group chat with her bridal party while she’s getting ready to replicate that feeling of the girls getting ready together. How fun to have the ladies drinking their mimosas from their homes, sharing stories and celebrating the bride!

If makeup artists are able to work, please understand that we are
working to the best of our ability under new circumstances we have never had to deal with in the past. Certain aspect of services may have to be omitted or altered. Services may take longer to accommodate the sanitation procedures needed to help keep everyone safe.

Regardless of what type of interaction is possible, whether by video or in person, makeup artists want to give you the best possible experience. At the end of the day, we all want you to feel special and to help create a little of the magic you had looked forward to on your day. If you don't have an artist, now may be the perfect time to reach out to one to see if they offer options that will fit with your newly revised vision.

And as I have always told all of my brides, well before any notion of a pandemic, there is only one true goal for the day and that’s to be married to the love of your life! Congratulations!

Makeup for a Summer Bride at Syracuse University and Hotel Syracuse

Thank you Katherine for this wonderful review of your bridal makeup services:

Superb friendly makeup artist!
Holly is my go-to makeup artist in Central New York. She brings a calm, friendly demeanor to the room, no matter how high stress the situation is! She has done my makeup for a boutique fitness photoshoot, my engagement photos, and now my wedding photos. She does an absolutely incredible job of highlighting the natural beauty of each person she is working on and the makeup stays on all day no matter how much you sweat or cry! She stayed with us through the ceremony to do any touch ups necessary (and there were very few). I cannot recommend Holly highly enough - she does a beautiful job!

New look for my Syracuse Makeup Studio

New wall art!

I recently painted my in home A-List Artistry makeup studio. I want the walls to be more of a blank canvas so the paint colors don't reflect on my clients and affect the way the makeup looks when they are having a Makeup Preview for their wedding day look.

Honestly, I've been struggling with what I want to do to decorate the space. So when I was contacted by Jennifer from Modern Map Art about her maps, I was pretty excited! Modern Map Art features Upstate New York cities like Syracuse, Ithaca, Geneva, Saratoga Springs and Binghamton. All areas we travel for our bridal clients and our commercial clients! So when she offered to send me one to review, I thought the Syracuse map would be perfect for one of the walls in my studio!

After considering a fun color for the frame, I decided to go with classic black. And I love that my little street in Jamesville is on the map as well! So one wall in my studio is complete!

Want one of your very own? It would  look great in a dorm room, local Syracuse business or the home of any proud Syracuse resident, past or present( which includes SU fans)! Check out my affiliate link. http://www.modernmapart.com?rfsn=634983.917d21

Makeup for Mother of the Bride and Mother of the Groom Part 2

The response to our first Mother of the Bride makeup post has been overwhelming! And it prompted many brides to send us photos of their moms after we did their makeup the day of the wedding. The post is one of the most viewed postings on our blog, which lets us know two things.
1. Our brides LOVE their moms!
2. Moms definitely have a concern about how they will look if they chose to have makeup done the day of the wedding.
We get it! We know the wedding process in itself is overwhelming. Choosing the "Mom" dress can be a challenge in itself. So putting the moms beauty needs in the hand of professionals can take one thing off the To DO list the morning of the wedding. We'll create a look that will leave her looking refreshed and polished.

Mallory's bridal makeup at Mirbeau Inn & Spa and Anyela's Vineyard

Such a beautiful day for an August vineyard wedding! Mallory chose to get ready at Mirbeau Inn and Spa, one of our favorite locations in Skaneateles, NY
Mallory and her ladies were so fun to work with. Having a larger party, Mallory had 2 makeup artists, Holly and Jessica from A-List Artistry. Hair styling by Tiffany Dewald

Love the outdoor shots at Anyela's Vineyard. A beautiful place for a wedding and reception like Mallory's!
Mallory's mom looked absolutely gorgeous in her turquoise dress. Perfect with her eyes!
Special thanks to Laure Lilliefrom Laure Lillie Photographe for sharing these shots with us. We love working with her!

It's so great to work with a family more than once on events. Everyone feels comfortable and at ease because they know we are professionals. The Geratys are one of those families.
Rosanne was an A-List Bride in 2011. Her brother is Nicole's groom! She arranged for Jessica and Maria to be there for Nicole's day as well. Thanks Rosanne!

Jessica's makeup artistry for Tyng's Turning Stone Wedding

Jessica's day doing airbrush makeup with Tyng at the Tower at Turning Stone Casino and Resort was fun filled. Tyng chose The Tower over The Lodge because, as she put it, She and her fiance wanted to be close to the action! I loved her zest for life and making the wedding details personal.
As you can see her detail of hiring a pro makeup artist certainly paid off! She looks stunning and ready for all the action!
